| Front row: | Joel Holau (whose father ran the Shell
station at the corner of Main and High Streets in Wailuku) Carmen Feteira John Han (who still lives on Maui, I believe, although he was in poor health the last I heard. He was freshman class president at Maui High our first year there.) Kimie Hamasaki, whose mother was a domestic for the manager of Wailuku Sugar Co. Kimie became a nurse and was a recipient of a Rotary Club grant for further study in the fifties. She died very young. Frank Flores, whose father was a supervisor at the HC&S power plant near Kahului. He died shortly after our 50th Maui High class reunion in 1996. Emiko Kimizuka, whose father had a store in Kahului Violet (Mossman) Puahala. The last I knew she lived in Pearl City or thereabouts. |
| Second row: | Charles Crane (that's me). My father was editor
of the Maui News for 36 years (1936--1964). After college at
the University of Iowa I worked as an engineer at HC& S and
then went on to study for the Episcopal ministry. My career stretched
over 31 years when I had parishes on Oahu and Kauai. I retired
in 1988 and now live in Mesa, Arizona. Robert K. Silva, whose Dad was in Industrial Relations at Wailuku Sugar Company. He became very successful, retiring as CEO of the Manitoac Ice Machine Company in Manitoac, Wisconsin. He still resides in Wisconsin at Two Rivers. Charlotte Robello. Don't know anything of what happened to her. Esther (Takakura) Mookini, who is a leading expert on Hawaiian language and history. Her husband was Provost, Chancellor (or whatever you call it) at University of Hawaii, Hilo until his untimely death several years ago. She is co-author of a Hawaiian -English Dictionary, which I think is still in print. Vivian Tom, who became a school teacher in New York City, where she now lives in retirement. She is the (den mother) of a yearly reunion of Maui High `46 folk who gather in Las Vegas. Viola Aki, Don't know anything of what happened to her, although she did attend one of our reunions -- I think it was the MHS fiftieth. The last one on the right I don't know. |
| Third Row: | Gregory Baldwin, whose father ran the Ulupalakua
Ranch. Scion of the Maui Baldwin family. He ended up on the Bay
area Peninsula, I believe, but I haven't been in touch with him
at all. Clay McKlusky, who put me in touch with your web site. He is retired at Ft. Walton Beach, Florida after a career as a hospital administrator. Alan Watanabe, whose father was a teller at the Wailuku Hawaii National Bank, later First Hawaiian Bank. I think he lived on Maui, but I don't know what he did. Barbara (Roach) Strona, who married Dave Strona, a Boy Scout Executive. I heard from her some years ago when she was living near Pomona, California. Her father worked at the MA plantation. June (Kiyosaki) Takano, whose father was the proprietor of the Iwanaga Photo Studio near Camp Three, Spreckelsville. He did all the shots for the Silversword. June's husband was a career army officer, and they now live in Kailua, Oahu. Naomi Watanabe. (No relation to Alan) Don't know anything of what happened to her. |
| Fourth Row: | (sort of hiding) Norma Ambrose. Don't know
anything of what happened to her. (skipping way to the right) Betsy Church, whose Father taught at Baldwin High where I think he was Principal, and whose Mother was our Sophomore Social Studies teacher at Maui High. But I don't know anything of what happened to her. Brucie Cruickshank (sp) whose father was in the army stationed on Maui at the time. The last time I heard of her she had attended a Maui Reunion in San Diego, but that was at least a decade ago. |
| Fifth Row: | Maile Ann Newton, whose father was with the
Maui Police Department. Don't know anything of what happened
to her. Frances (Baldwin) (no relation to Greg) whose married name I have forgotten. She died several years ago in Salem Oregon where she lived with her husband whom she met at the University of Oregon where she attended college. Amos Eldridge, was a top athlete, and , unlike most of us, matriculated at Lahainaluna. His father was an athlete, too, and had much to do with the company recreation programs at HC & S. He died many years ago. George Goo, whose folks had a restaurant in Wailuku. He attended a MHS '46 reunion in Las Vegas several years ago. That was the last time I saw him. Wallace Doty, whose career was in the sugar industry on Kauai and the Big Island, with some time in Iran with C. Brewer & Co. He now is retired and lives in Volcano, Hawaii. And, finally, our faithful principal, Charles Mounce. He left the next year to be Principal at Baldwin High School. |
