CLASS HISTORY

Way back in 1940, when the Class of '48 was just entering school, 38 big-eyed, short, fat and tall children started their most exciting event of their lives. They were starting their First Grade at Kaunoa School with Miss Hill as their teacher. Of those that started school from the First Grade, 27 are left. They are Carolyn Baldwin, Michael Baldwin, Keiki Churchill, George Filler, Roberta Coleman, Ward Fleming, Wray Fleming, Maeva Hair, Janet Kitagawa, Allan Pico, Jacque Medeiros, Fred Rice, Joan Ann Medeiros, Neal Walker, Gertrude Miyamoto, Jerry Walsh, Sally Murphy, Robert Shehtanian, Carol Nashiwa, Jean Takakura, Connie Ruddock, Ruth Shimoda, Stephen Hubbard, Harry Daniels, Lois Bruce and Sue Ford.

During the second year, we were joined by Dorothy Tom from the Wailuku Elementary School and Lucille Yasumichi from Hamakuapoko School. During that year we lost Sally Murphy who went to California, Ward and Wray Fleming who went to San Francisco and Robert Shehtanian who went to Fresno, California. Our teacher then was Mrs. Neva Meloncon.

In the third year, Hanako Nakama joined us from Wailuku Elementary School. We had two teachers that year - Mrs. Harriet Hasse and Mrs. Ruth Doty.

Miss Nina Kirk was our fourth grade teacher.

In the fifth year, we lost Keiki Churchill who went to Maine and Jacque Medeiros who went to Lincoln School in Honolulu. That year Mrs. Elizabeth Brown was our teacher.

In the sixth year, we were joined by Keiki Churchill and Jacque Medeiros. Our teacher that year was Mrs. Mary Jo Kinnison.

In the seventh year, Ward and Wray Fleming again came back. They had been in West Portal School. James Jacobs left us for Robert Louis Stevenson School in Honolulu. Our teacher that year was the same, Mrs. Kinnison.

In the eighth year, Teddy Tagami came from Box Elder High School in California. We were joined by Emily McLane, also, who came from Pompano Junior High School in Florida, and Robert Shehtaninan who returned from Lanai High School.

This is the class history of the Class of 1948.
