In the year 1942 a group of shy children, ages ranging from five to six, were taking their entrance exams to enter Kaunoa. As most of you can guess, these were the students of the present eighth grade.

In the first grade class of '42 there were 38 students, namely: Dwyer Apana, Richard Belt, Kaleo Brandt, William Dease, Neil Eldridge, Florence Endo, James Fernandez, Ray Gill, Karla Hartman, Anne Hjort, Walter Holt, Edwin Ichirio, Mary Jardine, Polly Kadosaki, Roy Kitagawa, Guy Kinnison, Roberta Lawson, David Lindsey, Eleanor Omoto, Juliette Ow, Joan Perry, Margaret Powers, Edmund Rogers, Sandra Sheffield, Patsy Silva, Barron Souza, Jon Stibbard, James Takakura, Robert Ting, Edwin Venhuizen, Marjorie Wadsworth, Antoinette Wong, Yvonne Yoshioka, Stella Young.

In the first grade our teacher's name was Miss Margaret Hill. People going and coming in that year were these: Tommy Jones joined us, Robert Ting left in November, so did Jean Bruce and Roberta Lawson.

In the second year at Kaunoa, the students of the now second grade had Mrs. Melancon for their teacher. Michael Dugan, James Fernandez, and Edwin Venhuizen left during that year.

Our teacher in the third grade was Mrs. Doty. Two students left during the year. They were Dwyer Apana and Mary Jardine, and Philip Murray was our new addition for that year. Also leaving were Karla Hartman, Stella Young, and Christella Kong.

In the fourth grade, we had Miss Kirk for a teacher. Addition for that year was Sidney Ogawa. Students who left were Bill Erpanbach, Jon Stibbard, Florence Endo, Margaret Powers, and Anne Hjort.

In the fifth grade our teachers' names were Miss Alice Johnson and Mrs. Mildred Baldwin. Sally Kindall, Sally Murphy, Bette Kagawa, Alan Sakamoto, Gaynel Knight and Barbara Kochi were our newcomers and also Tony Ranada and Joan Smith. David Lindsey left.

Mrs. Walsh was our teacher in the sixth grade. In that year many students left, namely: Sally Murphy, Marjorie Wadsworth, Sally Kindall, Joan Smith and Gaynel Knight. Harold Shieve was our newcomer.

Mr. Belt and Mrs. Kinnison (departmental) were our teachers in the seventh grade -- a good year. Sandra Sheffield left and no one came.

In our final year at Kaunoa we have Mrs. Kinnison and Mr. Belt for teachers. Students that came this year are Frank Alameda, and an old-timer David Lindsey, Portia Wassman and Norman Sumida. We would like to add by saying, the two boys David and Frank left us this same year.
