In 1945, thirty-two bashful, but eager children entered the portals of Kaunoa School and were on their way to higher education!
They were Jocelyn Alo, Ben Baldwin, Judy Baldwin, Jane Ann Bodie, Frank Brandt, James Corell, William Girton, Annette Hamada, Joan Hedding, Lamela Holt, Nevis Hughes, Richard Humphreys, Michael Kinner, Judith Laesch, William Milne, Solomon Moikeha, Carol Muroki, Betty Neary, Jane Oura, Lois Patterson, Majorie Sniffen, Ronald Shigeta, Ann Summers, Rhoda Tom, Ruth Torii, George Trist, John Venhuizen, Richard Wirtz, Jeanette Wong, Samuel Wong, Barry Woodal, and Joy Woolaway. Miss Hill was our teacher.
In the second grade we were divided into two classes. Mrs. Doty took one, and Mrs. Glascoe, Mrs. Baldwin, Mrs. Milne, Mrs. Brandt, Mrs. Jijine, and finally Mrs. Upshaw taught the other class. New additions were Darlene Blakeney, Betsy Garret, Diana Ovio, Winifred Trist, and Edward Underwood. William Girton, Nevis Hughes, Judith Laesch, Ronald Shigeta, Ruth Torii, and Barry Woodal did not return to us. Billy Milne left us later in the year.
In the third grade our teacher was Miss Valentine. Newcomers were Jay Adler, Norman Anduza, Mevin Montablo, Glenda Ueoka, Sylvia Watson, and Kay Ueoka. Bill Milne retured to us. Leaving us were Jane Ann Bodie, Joan Hedding, Ann Summers, Betsy Garret and Darlene Blakeney.
In the fourth grade Mrs. Davis was our teacher. Walter Nakata, Patricia Laird and Tom Kruse joined us. Jay Adler left us.
Teaching the fifth grade class was Mrs. Hughes. Our new classmates were Vernon Bal, Andrew deLaveaga, Thomas Osakoda, John Reynolds, and Laurel Wood. Michael Kinner, Melvin Montable, Walter Nakata, Thomas Osakoda, Richard Wirtz and Patricia Laird left us.
Our sixth grade teachers were Mrs. Westcott and Mrs. Wise. Richard Wirtz, our old friend, returned to us. Leaving us were John Reynolds and Mrs. Westcott.
Our seventh grade class was taught by Mrs. Walsh and Mrs. Hull. Our new classmates were Sharon Anderson, Donald Kay, and Jack Van Voast. Leaving us were Norman Anduza, Bill Milne, Marjorie Sniffen, Winifred Trist, Sam Wong, and Mrs. Walsh.
This year we regretted saying "Aloha" to Sharon Anderson, Vernon Bal, Donald Kay, Tom Kruse, and Rhoda Tom. Joining the mighty class of "53" was our old friend Bill Milne. Our teacher for this year was Mrs. Priest.

The Kaunoa School Class of 1953 held its reunion on June 20, 21 and 22, 1997.
